Robert Severson's "Lil Annae" in memoriam
I would like to share the story of Bob Severson and his custom built 50 watt amp that he named "Lil Annae". Bob contacted me in the spring of 2010 and we started talking about building his "perfect rig". Bob was a retired Attorney that played blues and had remarried a Lady named Annette that sang. They played the blues together and that was his favorite thing in life. Bob said he wanted a 50 watt Little Walter Tube Amp and he wanted us to Relic it. During the build Bob would call and we would discuss speaker cabinets and various speaker configurations that he planned on using with his amp. I started feeling like Bob was more than a customer he was becoming a friend. Although I only asked Bob for half of the cost until the project was finished he sent me the second half of the deposit before I was finished. Near the end of the build I called him to discuss a feature that he wanted and he was in the hospital for some therapy. I wished him well and he said it was only routine. Finally the day came when I was ready to ship his amp. I called to get the address to ship to and his wife Annette sadly informed me that Bob had been suffering from terminal cancer and had passed away the day before. As you can imagine I was really devastated by this. Annae told me that it was Bob's wish that he own "his perfect rig". Annae told me that Bob's last request to her was that when his new amp came in she would play it for him. I feel that I was honored to know Bob Severson and hope to play blues with him someday.
" Very Classy, I'm so proud of my Little Walter Vintage Combo".
"The Little Walter 50 Watt is the most balanced amp I've ever used. The low strings are clear yet unified, the middle strings are warm yet distinct and the high strings don't have even a hint of harshness or glare. When recording, this allows the steel to lay beautifully within a track. All of these things translate very nicely to the stage. It's just plain inspirational to play through my Little Walter. And if I need to play on a loud stage, I simply add one of my SPLIT self-powered speakers and I have more than I'd ever need."
